"From life to death..."
Photosynthesis Written Statement
For my photosynthesis series I chose to photograph the life and death of flowers. The title of my series is, "From Life to Death." The compositional technique I used in my work included the lines, shape, color, and the depth of field. The lines, shape, and color are shown throughout the different photographs of the flowers. The flowers are very vibrant and colorful and show a lot of texture on the petals and the rain drops on the petals. The depth of field is shown through a few images of the flowers with other flowers in the foreground or weeds from the ground. Why are these photos important to/ of interest to you? These photos of the flowers in their stages of life and death are of interest to me because of how pretty flowers are and how amazing the colors look on camera.
What is the subject of your photos? What are your photos about? The subject of these photos is the life and death of flowers it shows the life of a flower to the death of a flower. Different flowers can have different symbolic meanings there are flowers that symbolize death, happiness or love. In my photo series by showing the life of flowers to the death of flowers I think it portrays a flower at its stage of death and then it grows and it is lively and it is a new form of life. With that being said I think my series also portrays the cycle or symbol of growth. A flower has a cycle where it dies and then comes back to life. I actually ended up photographing my images with my phone rather than the camera. Although I did use a camera when I used my phone I did use the portrait mode which put a really good focus on every detail of the flower. In my series I did not really use any particular type of alternative process. The only thing I did when taking these images was get really close to flower and focus in on just the flower with a depth of field. When I edited my photos I changed the contrast, upped the vibrancy, and cropped some of my images. I wanted to make the vibrancy higher on my photos because a flower is vibrant it is something that brings people happiness and life so it should be vibrant and colorful. I got my inspiration from Mrs. Troutman. One day there was a dead flower hanging down on the board and she told me I should do the life and death of a flower so I decided it would be a very beautiful, colorful, and amazing idea to photograph. Again Mrs. Troutman inspires me to photograph without Mrs. Troutman I would not know how to photograph as well as I do now or edit photos to make them look great. Capturing vibrant and colorful photos also inspires me to photograph more. Subject matter that I like to photograph is nature. I enjoy capturing nature because nature is such a pretty thing to photograph filled with so many colors and textures. My goal as a photographer when capturing photos is to capture the amazing color and texture of objects of people. I want to express reality and simpleness through my images in the best way possible. When I take images I like to make them simple but at the same time have a message or meaning behind the photograph. I want the viewer to understanding the meaning of the photograph or the series but not have difficult time understanding what the actual image portrays. Photography is important to me because it allows me to express myself through different images and expressing different emotions throughout my photos. I take photographs to capture the simplicity and their different emotions I am allowed to express through photos makes me want to photograph even more. My connection with photography is allowing myself not only to express myself through photographs but also make people think or feel a different way when they look at an image. What motivates me to take photographs is being able to show different meanings throughout the photographs I take. Photography has no set of rules and I enjoy being able to photograph things how I want. I took these photographs to show not only the importance of nature but the cycle of a flower from life to death and portraying both color and texture. I took all of my photographs at a very close point of view and a lot of them are straight forward with portrait mode on.
Editing on Photoshop I changed the levels of brightness, contrast, and vibracy to show that colorful aspect of my photos on point. Again to photograph these images I used portrait mode on my phone to capture that specific view of the flower. To me photography means to me the enjoyment of that creative fulfillment I am able to have. It helps me express myself artistically, and that’s a wonderful thing. Ideas or concepts that are visible i my work that I communicated is nature and the beautiful and colorful aspect of nature. This is shown throughout my photos in this series because all of the images are very bright and vibrant and show nature at its finest. My favorite subject capture in photography is capture because it is simple yet beautiful and colorful and an easy concept to understand. Although I did not use the zoom lens when photographing these images the zoom lens is my favorite lens to use when capturing images. I enjoy working with the zoom lens because it is great for portraits and captures everything. What I like best about photography is being able to express my feelings and attitude though certain images. I allow myself to do this by enhancing things like, contrast, brightness, vibrancy, etc. Photography allows me to have a creative mindset.
I know when I take a good photograph because it is either very complicated ad liked by others or for me I enjoy seeing bright colors and sharp defied aspects in people and objects. Patterns that emerge in my work are usually color, texture and light. I like my images to have amazing color and texture to be able to really show in detail in order to portray the right message or meaning in my photos. After taking both photography ad advanced digital photography it has allowed me to edit my images in a mature way and not a way that it too much for someones eyes. I have learned different angles to take my photographs and ways to capture the color and texture of an object or even a person. I feel as though my images have matured very much from last year to these year and I have focused more on meaning behind photos rather than just taking a photo. When I photograph nature I am reminded of the beauty we are surrounded with and the many colors and texture. When photographing nature I am allowed to express my thoughts as freely as I want and any way I want. I begin a photo series by thinking of what I am going to photograph, why, and what the meaning behind the series will be. What I enjoy most about photograph is the different colors and textures that are captured. When people see my work, I'd like them to think about the meaning behind a photo and be able to capture the understanding of the image. Overall photography has a large impact on my life by changing the way I see things and allowing me to have a creative mind set.
